Beautiful and challenging course
Main positives: Incredible scenery, was a real mix of terrain to keep it interesting throughout.
- Aid stations were well stocked throughout, with brilliant volunteers and marshalls.
The course itself was very challenging, especially the steep hill around mile 6 ish. I wouldn't say this is particularly beginner friendly, but I'd still give it a shot.
Some negatives:
- Was initially handed the wrong medal, as were multiple other people. I wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for my wife, so got lucky there.
- Disappointed that the half marathon medal was no different than the 10k, besides the ribbon being a different colour and stating it was the half marathon. I've raced with another organisation who usually have different medals on hand for the long distance finishers, which adds an extra boost and nice touch.
Only other minor negative is that I wish the timing chips could be attached to the bib, but that's a minor gripe.
All in all a fantastic race with just some small areas for improvement. Will potentially enter again next year. Lovely post race massage, too, I forgot to add.
Good mix of trail and road. Great location
Good race to do, increasing in popularity by the looks of the numbers there today. Well organised. Good venue, with lots of food and drink options at the end at Macknade, making this a good sociable race overall.
Definitely recommend doing this one.
One small criticism:
Music being played before the beginning of the race drowned out the race director's talk.
Great company!!
I’ve run two of their events(stelling minnis and the macknade half)
Both have been really enjoyable runs and very well marshalled with some very scenic routes.
Will definitely book with them again.
Thanks
Challenging Half Marathon
Great scenery, challenging route, great run to test fitness or train on a different terrain.
Would definitely recommend the race as an overall experience.
I loved the atmosphere from beginning to end.
This was a very well organised race, the volunteers were brilliant and the atmosphere afterwards at Macknades was brilliant. Thank you!
Great course for any level
Overall the event itself was thoroughly organised so fair credit to the organisers and volunteers who ensured this was such a successful event. The course itself is a good mix of road and trail running and not overly hilly so is good for all levels of runners and you get a beautiful medal at the finish line. My only gripe would be the starting section of the course is a little too narrow which often ends up with a bit of congestion considering the volume of runners in each wave.
Excellent
Great race, brilliant route, really well organised.
Beautiful route like no other, but brutally challenging! Deadly mix but a great run to test yourself.
Spot on
Amazing
Great atmosphere and good organisation, varied route and superb marshalls!
Maybe put safety pins and cable ties in pots/tubs on the registration table for runners to help themselves and then you would save using the envelopes. But what a great run - would definitely recommend and do again
great location, good atmosphere & well organised
You won’t find a more scenic, accurately measured multi terrain event
Thoroughly recommend this event to everyone, beginner or experienced runner alike. It’s not a pb route, but the fabulous scenery and the multi terrain challenges make it a very worthwhile a good value for money race.
Tough but beautifull half marathon
Realy well organised event, being local and having run most of the route in the weeks leading up to the event i was very impresed with how much of the overgrowth the team had cleared. A few more signs might have helped some that got a little lost at times.
Beautiful country run
I love running around selling and the surrounding suburbs. We were very lucky with the weather too. I did the 10km, but would love to give the half a crack as the course looked awesome :)
Hot and Hilly
This is a very good race with lots of ups and downs ( Hills) A bit narrow at the start and very uneven, which I was prepared for beings local.
I did the 10k and at the half way point the lady marshal Did tell me to turn round . She also took a photo of me
Challenging but fun
A great mix of trail and road with plenty of elevation adding to the challenge. I personally had no issue with navigation as I know the area well. Quite a few people went straight on across the orchard before getting to Brenley Lane. The actual path as shown on your map goes to the left first around the edge which is what I did. My Garmin still came up a bit short so I ran on a bit further at the end. It probably needed arrows or an extra marshall at that point. All the Marshalls did a great job and water stations were well placed. A bit of walking at the start but tbh I was expecting it so it didn’t worry me. Clearing it more wouldn’t help as it is very uneven. Nice medal and weather was perfect.
Probably the best race in Kent
You always know that you'll get a good event with Sporting Events UK. But on this occasion they pulled off probably the best local race I have ever done. The scenery was to die for, and the after race atmosphere was electric. The event village was nestled just behind Macknade which gave full access to the food hall and street food market. Put this race on your calendar for next year.
Wonderful event!
Excellent event with a really good atmosphere. Loved having the food available at the end and the party atmosphere with the live music.
The single lane at the start was the only downside.
I really want this to become an annual event!
Outstanding new race - hope it becomes an annual event.
A superb new half marathon. The scenery was amazing and I loved the varied course with a great mix of off-road and quiet country lanes. The HM was tough, but the inclusion of a 10K option means the event is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced runners. The venue was great - plenty of parking and a huge range of post-race options (food, drink etc.) very close to the finish line. I personally didn't have any problems navigating the route, but a more staggered start would help with the narrow path at the beginning. As always, thanks to Barry and all his team (including of course the marshalls) for putting on an exceptional new event.
