Where can I get transport to the start of the 2.5k swim at Sharpham North Quay?

You can get transport to the start at Sharpham North Quay from the registration area outside the Riverside Cafe at 3pm. To do so, you must select the transport option when you book your ticket, which includes two night's camping on Friday and Saturday at Ashprington Point Field, regardless of whether you intend to camp.

Sharpham have designated the free car park at Sharpham Rservoir at the end of the track leading to Ashprington Point Field.

Is it safe to swim in the River Dart?

We take guidance from Friends of the Dart and the harbourmaster and as far as we are aware, the pollution sources affecting the river have not changed significantly over the last few years. You must also assess river conditions and if they are sutable for your level of health.

However each swimmer has a responsibility to self assess their own level of health and whether the conditions of the river are suitable for them to swim in.

The Environment Agency and Dart Harbour advise against swimming in these waters, which have consistently tested poor quality, and if you choose to do so then it will be at your own risk.

Swimmers are reminded of safety protocols in the water:

Wear a wetsuit (min 2mm)
Flush wetsuit before race start to acclimatise to temperatures
Sighting every 7 strokes to aide direction
Be alert to buoys and aware of other river users
Avoid swollowing water
Tow Floats are allowed

Swimmers will receive a full race briefing on how to alert the safety team in the event of getting in to difficulty.

Parking can be found at the Stoke Gabriel Quay, near the River Shack Cafe, with 100 spaces but you will need to pay.

There are also public toilets nearby, about 50 meters past the Post Office. The Dartmouth Park & Ride is another option, offering 175 spaces. Other potential parking areas include the Mill Pond car park and various locations on roads like School Hill, Paignton Road, Flood St, and Aish Road
